Top 7 Business-focused Private Members Clubs in London

Sherlock Holmes had one (The Diogenes). So too did man about town Bertie Wooster (The Drones). Lord Peter Wimsy frequented several, notably the Bellona.

Once upon a time, anyone who was anyone in London had a club, somewhere he could go to relax and chew the fat with like-minded gents, usually in the environs of St James’s Street or Pall Mall.

Today, things are a bit different.

While some of the clubs in the most upmarket addresses of the capital retain their exclusive air and all-male membership, more recent entrants have served to democratise London’s club scene.

Moving with the times means women are now welcome at most and members are drawn from a much wider demographic pool than was once the case.

It also means clubs have popped up that seek to operate as both a social club and a business hub.

Our list features seven of the best London-based private member clubs that focus on nurturing the next generation of business leaders in no particular order.

    1. Homegrown Club

This cavernous club in Mayfair is the first private members club in London to combine the luxury of a private members club with the business focus of a co-working environment.

The club has pioneered the idea of ‘clubworking’, an idea that marries the luxury and relaxation you associate with a club with a business focus that can be felt in the building’s business suites and offices.

The club has three floors of fully serviced offices, including nine high-tech meeting rooms, ideal for board meetings, confidential conflabs, and even private dinners. Each space offers a unique background with a distinctive style, allowing members to find the perfect environment for any client meeting.

The club’s bar is perhaps its most unique feature. It has been fashioned from an old bank vault and serves up a fine selection of wines, beers, and bespoke cocktails.

A roof terrace takes relaxation to the next level and allows members to take in the splendour of West London from a perch high above the streets.

    Membership

    • Club: 20 visits per year
    • Business: 48 visits per year.
    • Premier: Unlimited access.
    • Evening: Unlimited visits to the bar and restaurant after 5 PM each day.

You can arrange a tour and start your membership here (you can get an idea of the fees here, but we cannot confirm that this information is accurate).

Top Tip: Hayhill members can register to have their mail delivered to the club, meaning their business is associated with one of the most upmarket addresses in London.

When it comes to finding somewhere to relax, you’re in luck.

    Final Thoughts

London’s private members’ club scene may be much-changed since its heyday in Victorian and Edwardian England but it is still going strong and continues to diversify and democratise.

The business focus of the most recent clubs is just one example of the scene catching the zeitgeist.

The rise of remote and hybrid work and the post-covid boom in work-from-home jobs mean there has never been a more urgent need for business leaders to find new ways to network and connect in person.

By joining one of the business-focused clubs on our list you can do just that.

For more suggestions on where to find the best London clubs with a business focus, get in touch and we’ll happily provide more info.
