A growing number of us find it unthinkable that we would leave our pooches at home when we are on their travels.
Fortunately, man’s best friend is now welcome at not a few London hotels, many of them offering a dog-focused service that can rival that enjoyed by their human guests.
Our list – in no particular order – contains seven places where your pet isn’t just welcome to stay but will receive the royal treatment.
We’ve sought out hotels where comfy dog beds are de rigueur and the dry biscuits flow as freely as the champagne on your reception.
Most of the hotels on our list cater exclusively to travellers with dogs, but some of them welcome a menagerie of other pets.
It should be borne in mind that while the hotels on our list go out of their way to be hospitable to your four-legged friends, that doesn’t mean they are given free rein.
Most of the hotels on our list require you to keep your pets on a lead while in the public areas of the hotel and they tend not to be welcome in communal eating areas.
1. Brown’s Hotel in Mayfair
View this post on Instagram
Brown’s Hotel in Mayfair is perhaps London’s oldest hotel and it certainly its most quintessentially British one.
That very British tradition, afternoon tea, has won the hotel awards and it recently enlisted iconic Brit fashion designer, Paul Smith, to refurbish one of its suites.
Your canine companion can now sample some of the essential Britishness on offer at the five-star hotel in Albemarle Street.
New canine arrivals are fed the hotel’s chef’s secret recipe dog biscuits and their owners are given a William Morris at Home welcome pack containing a cosy dog bed and other items you and your pet are likely to need during your dog-accompanied stay.
The hotel even allows dog owners to use its restaurants and communal spaces.
That means you’re free to visit Charlie’s, the hotel’s restaurant, and the drawing room, where an ‘à La Bark’ doggy food menu is available, featuring doggie favourites such as raw chopped beef sirloin.
Once you’ve eaten your fill, you should venture out into the hotel’s environs armed with the hotel’s Doggy Guide to Mayfair, which will let you sniff out the best dog-friendly places to visit in the local area.
You won’t have to look far. Mount Street Gardens, Hyde Park and Green Park are all on the hotel’s doorstep, so you have an abundance of places to take your dog for a stroll.
Top Tip:
To make your stay extra special, book a suite and you and your furry friend will receive the additional benefits of the Rocco Forte Suite experience.
Pet Price & Policy
The hotel doesn’t reveal its prices for dog stays.
One dog of 9 lbs (20kg) is permitted to accompany a paying guest in any of its rooms or suites.

2. St Giles Hotel in Bloomsbury
View this post on Instagram
Few London hotels can claim to employ someone with the job title Chief Pet Relations Officer, but the Giles Hotel in Bloomsbury can.
He will give you the low-down on the best places to roam with your pet during your stay and attend to your pet’s every need during your stay.
The hotel is one of the stricter ones on our list when it comes to allowing animals to stay the night.
On arrival, guests are required to present up-to-date vaccination documents and inform hotel staff of any issues with their pet’s health.
Once checked in, pet door hangers must also be displayed on door handles throughout your stay to indicate you have an animal in the room.
If you and Fido feel the need to stretch your legs, Oxford Street, Soho, and Covent Garden are all within walking distance of the hotel.
The Elizabeth Line and Central and Northern lines are also close by if you wish to venture further afield.
Top Tip:
When booking your room or suite, use promo code WPET and your pet’s stay will be included in the price.
Pet Price & Policy
The hotel charges £30 per night for each cat or dog that stays with you.
A maximum of two pets with a combined weight of 55 lbs (25kg) can be checked in with each guest.
If your room is damaged or a mess is made by your pet, there will be a repairing/cleaning fee of £150 payable at check-out.

This five-star hotel in one of London’s chicest neighbourhoods is a veritable pooch paradise.
It has 111 rooms, including five suites, the majority of which are dog-friendly places where you and up to two dogs can spend the night.
Dogs aren’t allowed in the hotel’s standard rooms, but they can accompany their owners in all of the hotel’s deluxe rooms, deluxe studios and suites, as well as in the drawing rooms on the first floor, where the hotel’s award-winning afternoon tea is served.
All pet-friendly rooms and suites come kitted out with a complimentary dog basket, treats, eating bowl and dog food.
Sadly, the hotel’s eateries are off-limits to dogs – that means Apero, its Mediterranean-style restaurant, is a no-go for pooches.

4. Kimpton Fitzroy in Bloomsbury
View this post on Instagram
This hotel in Russell Square in Bloomsbury is perhaps the most animal-hospitable hotel we have on our list.
In fact, it has taken pet friendliness to the next level recently by opening its doors not just to dogs but a veritable menagerie of animals.
This means the hotel will welcome your feathered friends and even your amphibian amis if you feel the need to travel with them.
The hotel’s rule is if your pet can fit through the door, it is welcome to stay the night.
Furthermore, there are no limits on the number of pets allowed, a generous weight limit and no additional charges for bringing your pet to stay in one of the hotel’s 334 rooms.
The hotel asks that pet-accompanied guests use the provided door hangers so that other hotel guests and staff know that your pet is bedding down in your room.
The hotel’s personal touches are what really set it apart – staff insist on calling your pets by their given names, not the generic ‘boy’’.
In addition, dogs have their own doggie dinner menu and they – or rather their owners – can even order doggie room service.
As with the other hotels on our list, the hotel provides guests with a pet kit gift set upon arrival, which includes such necessities as a plush pet bed, dog food, a water bowl, a dog mat and doggie bags for do-dos.
Top Tip:
The hotel works with a local London dog daycare company, The Hound Hut, which is ready to take care of your pet when you need some alone time. Ask the hotel’s concierge for more information about this service.
Pet Price & Policy
The hotel says no matter what the size, weight, or breed of your pet, if it can fit through the door, it is welcome to stay at no extra cost.

This is another hotel with a dog-focused concierge service ready to attend to your furry friend’s every need.
The hotel is ideally located for pet owners given that it has several dog-friendly parks on its doorstep – green spaces with railings so you can exercise your dog without the risk of running into the road.
The hotel gives pet owners pretty much a free hand when it comes to where they can take their pets in the hotel – few spaces are off-limits and all of its 161 bedrooms, including seven suites, can be used by pets.

View this post on Instagram
This hotel in Portman Square in the heart of Marylebone, one of London’s toniest neighbourhoods, goes the extra mile for guests with dogs.
The hotel’s canine package (Paws and Relax) comes with a bundle of complimentary gifts that will ensure your dog’s stay passes off perfectly.
Freebies include a Nobu tote bag, a portable water bowl and doggie treats. For bedtime, you can also purchase a dog robe (£30).
Like the other hotels on our list, the Nobu makes available a pet concierge service to guests, your oracle for all things dog-related during your stay.
The rooms’ minibars come stocked with not just human comestibles and potables but doggie treats too. The hotel has partnered with Caboodle, so you can expect a dog-focused minibar packed with meaty treats and even seaweed-infused biscuits.
While the hotel is receptive to dogs, not all of its areas are accessible to dog owners. You are free to visit the Nobu cafe, your suite or room and the hotel lobby with your pet, but other parts of the hotel are off-limits.
Top Tip:
If you need a dog sitter during your stay, the hotel has you covered. Ask the concierge to put you in touch with Shoreditch Dog House, the hotel’s dog-care partner. They also offer dog walking and relaxing treatments for your pet.
Pet Price & Policy
The hotel charges a £50 fee for a stay of up to 10 days, which is included in your room or suite rate. The fee doesn’t apply to guide dogs.
Small-medium-sized dogs of up to 33 lbs (15kg) can stay in the hotel.
No additional charges for pets, but a one-off cleaning fee of £40 applies to all rooms where guests bring a dog.

Final Thoughts
For dog lovers, pets are just as important a part of the family as their flesh-and-blood kin.
In fact, according to a recent survey, more people would prefer to travel with a canine companion than a family member or friend.
However, choosing to travel with your pet is the easy part – finding a hotel that can accommodate a furry best friend can prove problematic.
But as we’ve shown, many London hotels are starting to tailor their offering to dog-accompanied visitors.
And not before time. Some faithful friends can live for 14 years.
That’s almost 100 years in dog years – a century of canine adventures for you and your faithful friend to enjoy together.
