By the time they hit 30, a third of men start to show signs of hair loss. By 50, that number has jumped to over 50 per cent.
In the past, thinning hair was a one-way street.
Today, hair restoration technology and treatments mean bald spots can be repopulated with lustrous locks and receding hairlines repaired.
The most effective way of regaining lost locks is to undergo a hair transplant, a surgical procedure that involves harvesting the long-lasting follicles at the back and side of the head and seeding them across the balding bits at the front and pate.
Two Types of Hair Transplant
Transplants come in two types: FUE and FUT.
The former is the more innovative of the two and involves a surgeon transplanting individual follicles, allowing for a less invasive procedure than FUT.
FUT involves the surgeon excising chunks of the scalp and harvesting the follicles from the flaps of skin.
It can be painful post-op and will leave a scar, which will take some time to heal.
However, FUT also allows grafts to be harvested from a more localised area of the head than can typically be done with FUE and it comes into its own if curly and Afro hairs are to be transplanted.
Non-Surgical Treatments
If surgery is a step too far, there are also many non-surgical approaches to repopulating bald parts with hair.
These often involve injecting the patient’s head with a concentration of the patient’s platelets to promote blood flow and stimulate the follicles or medical preparations, shampoos and laser treatments, all of which have been shown to arrest hair loss and rethicken hair.
How Much Does a Hair Treatment Cost?
Hair restoration treatments can be pricey.
According to an analysis by the Wimpole Clinic (on our list), the average cost of a hair transplant operation in the UK is just shy of £5,000.
Non-surgical procedures tend to come in a bit cheaper: a platelet treatment session will set you back between £200-600 per session, while a year’s supply of Rogaine, a popular medication for treating hair loss, will cost somewhere around £150-250.

This clinic in one of London’s chicest neighbourhoods doesn’t offer hair transplants but does provide a plethora of non-surgical procedures that have been proven to turn back time and restore receding hairlines.
All its treatment plans start with a discussion, during which a member of staff will explain the importance of maintaining your ‘old hair’ by leveraging the power of clinically proven medicines and alternative approaches to keeping the hair you have and promoting regrowth and thickness of thinning hair.

10. DHI London – 4.6/5 (87 Google Reviews)
View this post on Instagram
This is another clinic that specialises exclusively in hair transplant surgery and uses a revolutionary technique you won’t find anywhere else in London because it’s a proprietary transplant method.
Their procedure, Direct Hair Implantation, is one of the world’s most advanced transplant techniques. It uses advanced follicle extraction and implant technology, including high-precision tools that have a diameter of 1mm or less.
Both the extraction and implantation of hair follicles are performed exclusively by DHI doctors, who are specially trained and certified by LHRTA, the world’s first academy of hair transplantation.
This means that the results are both stunning and the donor and implant sites heal in no time.
The procedure can be performed on both shorn and unshorn scalps.
Freebies & Offers
- In-person Consultation: A meeting with a trained professional to assess if you are a suitable candidate for a DHI hair transplant.
- Online Diagnosis: A no-obligation consultation with a DHI hair surgeon via Skype, Facetime, or WhatsApp.

Post-Treatment Patience
Patience is key when it comes to post-op hair procedures.
In the case of a transplant, new hair will start to sprout out of the transplanted follicles around three to four months after the procedure.
The new hair will then shed and begin a new growth cycle when the growth begins in earnest.
All in all, it can take at least six to eight months for your new hair to begin to take shape and new hair will continue to bed in over the 18-24 months after the surgery.
