Top 5 Annual Sporting Events in London for your Calendar

London plays host to some of the most prestigious sporting events in the world.

Our list contains five of the best of them.

We have an experience for sports fans of every stripe – from the starchiness and subdued hubbub of the All England Club (aka Wimbledon) to the bear-pit raucousness of an FA Cup final at Wembley.

Tickets are often difficult to come by. Demand is driven not just by local fans but by international sports fanatics eager to witness some of the hottest sports action anywhere on the planet.

But never fear, we’ll explain how you can give yourself the best chance of securing the best seats in the house.

    1. Wimbledon

Nothing signals the start of British summer like the sound of fluffy yellow balls being thwacked back and forth across the exquisitely tended grass courts at SW19.

Wimbledon is considered the home of tennis by aficionados – its two-week competition is rightly regarded as the most prestigious of the four grand slams.

Naturally, this means tickets are gold dust – sometimes hunting down a seat on Centre Court or one of the inner courts can seem as tricky as returning a Federer serve.

    Tickets

There are three ways to get a ticket:

    • The public ballot is how the bulk of Wimbledon’s tickets are allocated. Ballot winners don’t get to pick the day or court – they are determined randomly by a computer. The ballot usually opens in September and October of the year preceding the championship and can be entered here. Successful entrants are notified in November.
    • The ‘Queue’ is an event in itself. Every year, tennis fans are invited to form a line outside the stadium, with a lucky few bagging a ticket on the day the tennis takes place. The grounds at the All England Club open at 10 am each day, but the line often starts forming in the wee small hours of the morning of that day’s play. The earlier you arrive, the better chance you have of bagging a ticket. Around 500 tickets are made available each day for No. 1 Court, No. 2 Court and Centre Court (except for the last four days on Centre Court, when all tickets are sold in advance). Thousands of passes are also issued to lucky queuers. These give access to unreserved seating and standing areas on courts 3-18.
    • Debenture tickets provide access to the best seats in the house on the most sought-after courts. These tickets provide hospitality service and as such tend to be pricey. They can be purchased from StubHub, Green&Purple and here.

    Freebies

If you simply want to soak up some of the electric atmosphere on offer at Wimbledon, you can always join fans on Aorangi Terrace (Henman Hill), a communal space adjoining the stadium where fans are free to watch the action on a super-sized screen.

Top Tip: If you plan to join the queue for tickets, be sure to download the Wimbledon app and create a myWIMBLEDON account. By doing so, you will be officially checked into the queuing system and also receive a notification when you’ve hit the front of the line and can purchase your ticket.

    2. FA Cup Final at Wembley

The final is the showpiece of the English football season and is held at its national stadium where two of the best teams in England are pitted against each other – the winner taking home the silverware.

The final is the culmination of a competition that takes place over 12 rounds and involves 124 teams.

Tickets for the event are sold in the first instance via the competing clubs’ websites and ticket offices – segregation is important in football so the clubs have designated parts of the stadium to sit in.

This means that neutrals can only bag a ticket through one of Wembley’s official hospitality experiences or a reputable reseller.

    Resellers

There are tons of FA Cup ticket resellers on the web, including:

Be aware that the price you pay for a ticket sold through a reseller will likely be heftily marked up.

    Hospitality

To guarantee yourself a ticket to the FA Cup final and other events at England’s national stadium, Club Wembley is the way to go.

You can also purchase Wembley hospitality packages here.

Prices start at £2,640. A hospitality pass gives you access to the hospitality area at the stadium and complimentary tickets to the final.

Top Tip: Competing teams and corporate sponsors often run competitions in the run-up to the final to win tickets. You don’t have to be a fan – just be ready to set up an account and enter your personal info.

    3. NFL at Spurs Stadium & Wembley

It has become a tradition over the past decade or so for a handful of NFL teams to decamp to London for a league fixture. This year five teams will fly to the British capital in the autumn to play.

Three games are currently hosted in London – two are played at the home of Tottenham Hotspurs football club and one at Wembley.

Tickets tend to go quickly via official channels, but the organisers have a website where those not lucky enough to bag a ticket can purchase a resold one at face value.

The official resale website, Ticket Exchange, can be found here.

You can also bag tickets at these resellers:

The tickets won’t necessarily be sold at face value.

    Hospitality

If you fancy watching the game as part of a hospitality package, you’re in luck.

There are a couple of options:

Top Tip: Some NFL London tickets are sold directly by the NFL clubs involved, usually via their websites. Therefore you should sign up on London-bound teams’ websites for ticket updates in advance of the fixtures.

This will ensure you’ll be at the front of the queue when tickets are released.  This season, Jacksonville Jaguars are selling tickets for their London fixtures directly.

You can get updates here and buy tickets here.

    4. The London Marathon

Perhaps the most famous – and certainly the largest – public road race in the world, the London Marathon wends its way through 26.2 miles of the capital’s public highways, giving runners up-close views of many of London’s iconic buildings.

Competition to join the race is fierce. The 2025 edition attracted over 800,000 applications via the ballot, the means by which would-be runners win a place on the starting line.

    The Ballot

The lucky pavement pounders are chosen at random in a computerised draw.

Entrants whose names come up on the ballot are notified by email and are also given a deadline by which they must pay the entrance fee of £69.99 or lose their place.

    Other Ways to Race

If you fail to win a place in the race via the ballot, you can still take part as a member of a charity team. You can find more info about charities that have places here.

In addition, the organisers operate the virtual TCS London Marathon MyWay for runners who can’t make it to London.

The virtual event, which has proven a big hit since it was inaugurated in 2020, allows runners to complete the marathon wherever they are in the world.

Top Tip: If you live in the UK, you can pay your entry fee upfront, which means you will pay a reduced fee (£49.99) to join the race.

By paying the fee beforehand, you also ensure that you are entered into a second ballot should you fail in the first. If you fail in both ballots, the organisers will send you a running top as thanks for your donation.

    5. Six Nations at Twickenham

A post shared by England Rugby (@englandrugby)

The annual rugby competition sees six of Europe’s top rugby nations face off for the silverware.

Twickenham hosts England’s three home fixtures in the competition. In 2025 these fixtures include games against France, Scotland and Italy.

While regular tickets for England’s Six Nations fixtures go on sale in the new year and prices are yet to be finalised, ticket prices are expected to fall into the following categories:

    • England v France: tickets priced from £89 (Cat 4) to £199 (Premium).
    • England v Scotland: tickets priced from £89 (Cat 4) to £199 (Premium).
    • England v Italy: tickets priced from £72 (Cat 4) to £149 (Premium).

Hospitality packages can be booked year-round here.

    Resellers

Buying Six-Nations tickets through a reseller is frowned upon by the RFU, the English rugby governing body.

The organisation warns buyers of unauthorised tickets through agencies, corporate hospitality providers, and sites such as Viagogo, eBay, StubHub and Gumtree that they run the risk of being refused entry if the tickets are found to have been resold.

    Final Thoughts

As we have shown, London’s sporting calendar is a packed one.

Thankfully, it has a transport system more than able to serve the hoards who come to London to sample its sporting spectacles.

Indeed, the British capital is one of the best-connected cities in the world – its six airports, iconic Tube network and overground rail system mean the only crowds a sports fan is likely to encounter will be found in the stadium.
