Top 11 Unmissable Immersive Gaming Experiences in London

If you’re looking for a bit of an escape from the daily grind, you’ve come to the right place.

Previously, we have featured the top ten immersive experiences to escape reality, but this list is for all game enthusiasts looking to be whisked away to distant planets, alternative universes and the sets of hit TV shows.

Several of the immersive gaming experiences on our list are brand-spanking new – The Traitors, for example, is fresh from its BAFTA-winning run on the BBC and opens in July.

Continuing the TV theme, our list also features immersive experiences that will be instantly recognisable to fans of television game shows – The Cube and Crystal Maze immerse players in the worlds from the hit TV series they are based on.

We’ve also opted to feature immersive VR game experiences and award-winning escape rooms, which have garnered hundreds, if not thousands, of positive reviews.

We’ve rounded out our list with a few left-field suggestions, including The Gameshow, a new offering that involves off-the-wall immersive standup and interactive games where the audience is the star of the show.

    Let the games begin.

NB: Our list is ordered by review scores and number of ratings from high to low. Please note that some of the immersive experiences on our list are only available for a limited time as per our disclaimers.

    1. The Crystal Maze LIVE Experience, Soho (5; 4,600+ Trustpilot Reviews)

Based on the iconic 1990s Channel 4 TV show, this immersive game experience in Soho manages to replicate in faithful detail all the fun of the Richard O’Brien-hosted funfest.

Your goal, as in the TV show, is to win crystals in four different themed zones by successfully carrying out a series of tasks, some testing your mental acuity, others your coordination and physical prowess.

Games typically take two to three minutes to complete, and they must be completed by an individual team member against the clock – if the egg timer runs out, you’re imprisoned in the room.

The more crystals you win, the more time you get to spend in the Crystal Dome, the endgame where contestants must grab the wind-blown tokens before the clock runs down.

    The four famous zones are:

    • Aztec Zone: Ancient civilization-themed puzzles.
    • Industrial Zone: Engineering and mechanical challenges.
    • Futuristic Zone: Sci-fi inspired tasks.
    • Medieval Zone: Challenges based on medieval times and fantasy.

If you’re a fan of B-movies, you’ll love the experience, as guests are immersed in a down-at-heel film studio setting where they have just one hour to solve puzzles and uncover mysteries to escape the studio.

A second room, The Emerald Phantom, has recently been added.

Here, you venture into a film diva’s dressing room to uncover just what has been going on there during the latest film shoot.

You’ll have an hour to sneak behind the scenes and work out the true identity of the enigmatic Emerald Phantom.

    3. Immersive Gamebox, Southbank (4.9; 4,000+ Google Reviews)

This hyper-interactive suite of immersive games in Southbank has garnered thousands of positive reviews, and it’s not difficult to see why.

The space is kitted out with the latest tech to bring next-level interactive gameplay – project mapping, touchscreen and 3D motion tracking all add to the mix and bring the games to life like never before.

The project mapping comes into its own in its most recent release, The Floor is Lava, where Gamebox’s walls become stunningly rendered, fully immersive environments that simulate in scary detail the appearance of molten lava.

Some experiences are geared towards children, while others are more suited to adults, with immersive adventures requiring teamwork, problem-solving skills, and physical interaction all on offer.

While the Immersive GameBox isn’t expected to close its doors anytime soon, its popular Angry Birds game will end in 2026.

ClueQuest has a quartet of immersive game rooms, each based around the theme of thwarting the nefarious Professor Blacksheep and his motley crew of accomplices.

    The four escape rooms are:

Four types of VR experiences are available:

Sci-fi fans can’t go wrong at the immersive theatre experience-cum- roleplaying game in Lambeth, a short walk from Vauxhall Bridge.

    The year is 2180.

The human race has fled Earth for pastures new because our host planet is overheated and inhospitable thanks to an unfortunate mix of war and climate change.

Players get the chance to channel their inner Spock or Captain Kirk, donning space-age uniforms and taking on a role among the ship’s crew.

Bridge Command offers a variety of mission types, each presenting unique challenges and objectives:

    • Diplomacy: Promote the vision of a unified humanity by negotiating with diverse factions across the galaxy. Success requires tactful communication and strategic negotiation.
    • Exploration: Investigate anomalies, search for essential resources, and survey uncharted sectors. These missions emphasise discovery and puzzle-solving, occasionally involving combat scenarios.
    • Intrigue: Delve into mysteries such as missing ships or disrupted communications. Tasks often involve intelligence gathering, requiring stealth and investigative skills.
    • Military: Engage in ship-to-ship combat, employing strategy and tactics to confront adversaries. Objectives include defending assets, assisting allies, and confrontations with enemies.

    10. Gameshow Spectacular, Shoreditch (5; 4 Google Reviews)

This immersive comedy show with a twist only opened recently but is already getting rave reviews.

Hosted by the weird and whacky stand-up comedian Dominic Blarke, the show features fun stand-up comedy, bizarre costumes, and non-stop interactive games for the audience.

If you’re a fan of old-school TV game shows, this will be right up your street.

But beware, this one is strictly adults-only – expect plenty of swearing and some partial nudity as the games get into their swing.

    Overview

    11. The Traitors: Live Experience, Covent Garden (No Google Reviews – opens in July 2025)

This immersive experience in Covent Garden follows hot on the heels of the hit BBC TV show.

You can opt to be a ‘faithful’ or a ‘traitor’.

As a traitor, your role is to murder and remain undetected by the rest of the group.

Conversely, if you choose to be faithful, your mission will be to identify the traitors and send them packing before they manage to find a way to murder you and your fellow faithful.

The game is psychological warfare, played among your group and other groups invited to the treacherous party.

The treachery begins in July 2025 and runs until November 2025 when the experience is expected to end its run in London.

    Overview

What’s New in Immersive Gaming in 2025?

2025 promises to be a revolutionary one for the world of immersive gaming in London.

Artificial intelligence (AI) and augmented reality are sure to make their influence felt going forward across swathes of London’s entertainment sector, not just gaming.

The forthcoming AI-enabled Shakespeare Museum in Shoreditch shows the shape of things to come.

Its AI smarts allow guests to tread the boards where the Bard himself once performed, replicating the sights, sounds and even the smells of Elizabethan England.

We can see this spilling over into gaming, where AI will make for more adaptive and interactive gameplay, especially in the use of smarter non-playing characters (NPCs) and better use of mixed reality elements to bring the gaming more vividly alive.

Finally, more comprehensive blockchain integration into its payments landscape will make paying for gaming in London easier and open to a host of cryptocurrencies.
